Mark Chen's Hero Clix Custom Figures and Paint jobs

In general, these were pretty easy conversions. I don't have any putty so I couldn't do any sculpting, just carving... When I get some, I can do the Gambit from Blade conversion I've seen at least two people do. As you can probably guess, I'm trying to make full X-men and Brotherhood teams. Some of the images can be clicked on for larger views; just mouse over them and see if the cursor changes. In chrnological order:

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch front Scarlet Witch back

The Scarlet Witch conversion was my first stab. I took an Elektra and carved away the flowy skirt thingie (what are those called anyway??). The cape was done by melting a sheet of plastic (found in packs at hobby stores) over a candle and then cutting to fit.

Here you can see I chopped off just a *little* bit too much of her hair on her left... The spot on her right cheek is from the camera lens, but I kinda like it so I might paint a mole on her somewhere! This custom Scarlet Witch is much more sassy than the regular one!

Mystique

Mystique front Mystique back

I used another Elektra figure for Mystique (and actually I sort of want another Elektra so I can make Psylocke).

Colossus

Colossus front Colossus back

Here's Colossus from a Captain America model. I love those Micron pens which I can use to make really fine lines! The photos suck in terms of showing information, sorry, but I suppose they're good at making a dramatic pose, what with the raking light and all...

Iceman

Iceman is from a Klaw model. You can click on the image to see a bigger jpeg (I accidentally reset the camera on the previous photos so no blow up view for them... sorry). I wanted to use hot glue and get an effect similar to Bob Kesinger's Blizzard, but I got impatient and melted one of those rubber tubes electricians use to seal a connection between two wires instead. I justified it by thinking that hot glue wouldn't match the ice bridge I used for Iceman to move around on. I made that, by the way, by taking a sheet of plastic (you can get packs of them from hobby stores) and melting it with a candle.

Shadowcat

Here's Kitty! Taken from a Wasp figure. I used the Wasp flight base with Iceman above and Klaw's stand for Shadowcat. At the time, I forgot that Shadowcat can "air walk", but that's okay; I like her on the ground. Click for larger view. Again, I love that fine pen I have! Eyes are a breeze! The figure was attached to the base using a small metal pin with the head cut off. I used a modeler's hand drill to make a hole in her foot and the base. Another item of note: the yellow I was using was too much like Wasp's original skin color, so I mixed my own skin tone with a little red; gives her that young innocent look! This figure was the hardest in terms of physical damage to myself. I have a section of bare muscle tissue on my left middle finger right now from the sudden snap of the knife as the wings popped off the original Wasp figure. Ah, the love of hobbies!

Wolverine

Wolverine featuring black stripes rather than the standard blue. The box and manual art features Wolverine with black stripes but I guess the assembly line painters needed to cut back on detail...

Jean Grey

Jean front Jean back

Jean... made her uniform a bit more orange, put the orange thigh things on instead of blue, and made her hair *a lot* more like red hair. The thong in back just sort of happened and I went with it... If enough people think it's too geek fantasy, I'll change it! :)

Beast

Beast front - click for larger view Beast back

I said earlier that I would hack up a Wolverine to make a pre-fur Beast and here he is! The whole line of figures use black lines to do shadows between fingers and other details. I felt that it made them all look more comic book like (I didn't do that with my Warhammer figures, for example). With Beast, I went even further by hatching and cross-hatching his hairy arms and legs...

Rogue

Rogue front - click for larger view Rogue back Rogue top

At the very least, I had to redo her hair. I mean, my god! The original didn't even have the stripe start at her roots or follow her hair line! When checking out images of Rogue on the web, I found a bunch for X-Men Extreme (or whatever it's called). Decided I liked that look way better than her usual green and yellow uniform and went for it. Had to chop her hair up a bit, too. Think I should redo the white bit so that it frames her face like in the actual alternate Rogue images?

Cyclops

Cyclops front Cyclops back

I don't like the Cyclops figure at all.... Here's my attempt to make him better. I used a lighter yellow and darker blue, and, just to distract viewers from the lame sculpt, I drew definitive lines to make him comic booky.

Professor X

Hmmm... what to say... Just made his colors more vivid to make him stand out better.

Wolfsbane

Rahne front Rahne back

Well, here's Wolfsbane... I did some major highlighting to make her hair more red like the Scot she is...
